Inner Knowing: Being Sixth Sensory
We are each born with an inner guidance that, when followed, leads us to a productive and fulfilled life ... the life we came here to live. Listening to the Light refers first to deciding to reconnect with this guidance and then to use this compass to guide our lives.
This Knowing is our birthright; it is a reflection of the love which created us all. We are so much more than we believe, our hearts are more loving than we imagine, and our wisdom far greater than we own. To believe this is the first step in becoming all that we are. By believing in our limitations we create the very walls that block us from our highest potential and from our dreams.
In the past, listening to our Inner Voice was the norm. While living off the land, our ancestors had ample opportunities to "commune with nature". Though they may have called it plowing, harvesting, hunting or clearing the land, you can bet that during this mind-numbing labor, they experienced connection with their Inner Spirit.
Their lives were synchronized with sunrise and sunset, the change of seasons, the cycle of the moon. They were in tune with their universe. They relied on the almanac to plant seeds, divining rods to find water, homemade remedies and the laying on of hands for healings, while legends, folklore and their faith guided them throughout their days. Theirs was a grounded, yet far-reaching awareness and life was often “mulled over” from the tranquil vantage point of the rocker on the front porch. And no one thought them weird.
Today, many of us spend our time in sterile, air conditioned offices working at jobs that are so specialized that we seldom see the end result of our efforts. We rely on religious specialists to speak of faith, medical specialists to heal us when we are sick, physical trainers to tone our bodies, financial managers to make more money, and occasionally psychic hotlines to point the way when all else fails. With fifteen second sound bytes, MTV, big screen TVs, DVDs, hundreds of cable channels, cell phones, computers, beepers and PDAs we are inundated with a cacophony of sound masquerading as communications.
In our world of instant messages, drive through dinners and the microwave, we expect that which we desire to be promptly delivered. If we have an Inner Voice, it had better speak up quickly and clearly. Is it any wonder then that we have become out of sync with our Inner Knowng?
Many paths lead to awareness. We are each unique, with our own path, our own vibration, our own lessons to learn, our own truth to speak. When we speak of Spirit, one size does not fit all. So treasure your curiosity and listen with an open mind. Most of all, utilize your own inner radar; respect your feelings and hunches. That which may seem true to me, may be irrelevant for you and your path. No belief, no path is intrinsically better than another.
The path to Inner Knowing is through your heart, not your mind. Accept others’ beliefs and good ideas only if they resonate within you. Filter all that you hear with this knowing. There is no spiritual superiority. No one knows better than you what is right for your life. We each learn every day.
